Another angle I should explore -- but can't muster the mental energy to do so -- is whether our pathetic federal government can do anything about bird flu should it become a major health crisis. And according to this, the idea of using complementary the military to quarantine populations in the event of an outbreak is probably a bad idea. The author says the military might make it worse by spreading the flu, although I'm not sure how he comes to that conclusion. Would army doctors and officers be more mobile than the rest of the rest of the population, and thus carry the infectious agents to places faster than they'd move on their own? |
