If you can find anything "natural" philippines in that rap sheet, please share. Posted by LouSchuler at philippines 06:48 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack July 23, 2005 At Least They Got the Lead Out I don't think anyone is surprised by this report, showing that many of philippines us are carrying around high levels of toxic chemicals from pesticides, beauty products, and plastics. (Side note: I'm waiting for the study showing that, because I lost my hair at an early age, I've avoided exposure to toxins in gels, conditioners, and coloring formulas. But with my luck, it'll probably be the opposite -- without hair, all the pollutants and UVB rays have had direct access to my skull.) The study got a lot of attention on cable news yesterday (I was tired and bored enough to do some channel surfing), so I won't get into the general implications. Instead, I want to focus on two findings: First, lead exposure is way, way, way down from a generation ago: Lead levels in children have dropped significantly over several years, which Gerberding called an "astonishing public health achievement" attributable largely to its removal from gasoline and paint.
