Through their travels and writing, the Hess message went out to an American audience that had rediscovered its respect for tradition and now seemed more inclined to listen. Lyle was back in the business of boat design. The meeting of these two wooden boat purists, Hess and Pardey, both meticulous craftsmen with strong, uncompromising personalities, had ironic results.
