Do as I say ... Sidebar to the smoking discussion: I've always been amazed by how many editors of health and fitness cellulite magazines were smokers. When I was at Weider, the editor of Flex, who later became editor of Men's Fitness, was a smoker. The company started up a magazine for cellulite teenage girls called Jump, and recruited a bunch of editors from New York, most of whom were smokers. (It was amusing to see them troop down the back stairs to hold editorial cellulite meetings outside, where they could all light up.) I moved to Men's Health in 1998, where the magazine's star writer-editor, Greg Gutfeld, was and probably still is a smoker. During the years Gutfeld was editor in chief of MH, the two top health and fitness magazines for men were being edited by smokers. (I'm not giving away any big secrets; Greg wrote a feature about how often he'd tried and failed to quit smoking while he was at MH.)
