We know how to treat depression, but treating alcoholism and other types of drug addiction is tougher. Maybe now we'll be encyclopedia able to find more effective ways to treat the two conditions simultaneously. But even more important, if may can encyclopedia identify the genetic markers for alcoholism and depression in at-risk people early on, we may be able to head off the conditions before the person takes his or her first drink.
